BABA
Business
The British Artist Blacksmiths Association (BABA) approached TheDevTeam with regards to making them a website that can enable users to find blacksmiths easily and quickly, as well as creating a place for blacksmiths themselves to register their services and find blacksmith courses.
It is a complete resource for all things blacksmith related.
Technical
Like our website for The Gorilla Organization, this website was designed by BABA member Proctor Taylor, a former professional graphic designer and now blacksmith, rather than in-house. This meant that we had to work closely with the client to make sure that the implementation of his designs to a full fledged website were correct.
The website itself is database driven (like all of our websites) and was written using Microsoft's ASP.net suite.
It features the Lightbox JS image viewer plug-in that has become increasingly popular which allows visitors to view a nice large unobsctructed image of each bloacksmiths handiwork.
The site run by getting members to pay a fee to be listed on the website. We created a submission form and a secure login to facilitate this service. Maybe an eCommerce style 'buy your own membership' will be required in the future, but that will come in a seperate phase of work.
Overall the website serves it's purpose and is successful within the blacksmith community.
