Google is the most important search engine in the world today, so getting a good listing on their pages is a key factor in being noticed on the web.
If you have already installed the Google tool bar in your browser, you can see the ranking that Google has given to you by hovering over the ranking icon when looking at your own website. To give you a sense of what is a good ranking here are some examples:-

With over 250 million searches each day, your ranking is an important factor in getting known.
If your site has a low page ranking, it will appear low down in the search results, even buried underneath pages.
PageRank is a system patented by Google, which ranks websites based upon how many other sites link to it. Sadly it’s a little more in-depth than this, and many sites internal structure are not optimise to take full affect of this.
