Data Visualisation and business benefits
Data visualisation is the act of taking information (data) and putting it into a visual context, like a map or graph. This means that both big and small data becomes easier for our brains to understand. We get to see patterns, trends, and outliers in groups of data faster and more easily. Whether during an election or via competitor analysis, information translates into power (and for business, this usually equates to profitability).
‘TheDevTeam’ is a close core of digital professionals based on the south coast, we have partnered with UK clients since 1989. (Take a peek under the bonnet for Estate Agents in our ‘behind the scenes’ approach below, for a fresh example).
Did you know that the lady with the lamp, Florence Nightingale became such a potent influencer by doing demos with pie-charts? Beyond being a leading nurse, medical reformer and campaigner for soldiers' health - she was also a pioneering data-journalist, gaining support by developing statistical graphics for her regular reports to Parliament.
At times there are still stumbling blocks around data potential. Skeptics ask; ‘How do these metrics benefit my business, I don’t see the point of these visuals at the moment. Do we need this?’
Let’s get down to brass tacks; in a fragile economy, when you get better trends insight, it will inform your supply and logistics decisions, staff ratio’s, performance targets, customer services, public profile and even when to scale.
Best of all, in 2020 there is no need to be geeky to benefit!
The formats are readily accessible for the entire business to interrogate and that means well-informed decision-making, often in real-time. Data is democratic - it opens opportunities within the organisation and crucially, it will identify missteps before they are liabilities - whether this is in personnel or contractual partners or customer services. Your metrics matter and these goalposts can keep your business objectives SMART.
Our internal video explains data flow and CRM for Estate Agency. In this example, I narrate local and cloud property dashboards with MLS controls that use custom feeds. If ‘agents united’ decide to unify and renegotiate their terms, key benefits might be large savings on Rightmove portal fees (reducing a fixed cost), plus exciting multi-listing opportunities to manage insights more cleverly (while also enabling a profitable opportunity for optional collaboration if required).
